Review of The Extra Mile : EQUIP AUTO's european business meeting

A day to discuss the challenges and opportunities of the automotive and services sector, but also to explore trends and actions to be taken for its future.

More than an event, THE EXTRA MILE by EQUIP AUTO is THE new European business meeting which brought together all the players in the upstream and downstream automotive sector.

Managers, decision-makers, equipment manufacturers, manufacturer distribution and repair networks, exhibitors, institutional partners, public authorities, French and international media, reunited one year before the fiftieth anniversary of the EQUIP AUTO exhibition.

With the Seine Musicale as a backdrop, we made our ecosystem vibrate around conferences and debates that will nourish all of our reflections on the challenges of tomorrow's mobility.

Key facts

Much like Paris Automotive Week, initiated by EQUIP AUTO Paris and the Paris Motor Show in 2022, THE EXTRA MILE by EQUIP AUTO was part of a week of events aimed at bringing together the general public and professionals, once again shining a light on the automotive industry, its excellence, its skills and its know-how.
With a year to go before its anniversary edition celebrating the 50-year mark held alongside the Paris Motor Show, EQUIP AUTO invited players from the automotive and services industry to its new business-focussed event, THE EXTRA MILE by EQUIP AUTO.
"THE EXTRA MILE" is a nod to the saying “to go the extra mile”, meaning to PUSH ONE’S LIMITS and SEEK TO GO FURTHER!
Together, let’s unveil the latest developments in the sector and start the countdown to EQUIP AUTO Paris 2025.
As a historical home to the automotive industry under its former name of ĂŽle Renault, the ĂŽle Seguin offers a symbolic connection with our event, which also celebrates innovation and excellence in the automotive sector.

"The major challenges facing the automotive and services sectors"

Detailed programme
2:05 p.m. - 4:05 p.m.

Electric and ultra-connected vehicles: the challenges of democratisation

Background: Renault and Stellantis are both launching electric vehicles at prices between €25,000 and €30,000 inc. VAT. The installation of battery factories in France and Germany is conducive to European sovereignty and lower cost bases. The connected and autonomous software defined vehicle (SDV) is a new issue to address. Is the electric, ultra-connected car of the future finally ready?

Automobile markets: headwinds or tailwinds?
European and international new vehicle markets are staying durably sluggish. Forecasts for the take-up of electric vehicles are being revised downwards. We hear from leading manufacturers (Renault, BMW), global OEMs (Forvia, Continental), industry analysts and representatives of the main trade associations.

Is the 2035 scenario for the end of fossil fuel engine production still credible?
The scheduled ban on the production of fossil fuel vehicles in 2035 is confronted with the harsh reality of EV take-up. Should it be reconsidered, at a time when manufacturers appear divided on the feasibility of meeting CAFE standards next year?

Innovation : is the affordable electric vehicle ready for action ?
Is the affordable, electric and ultra-connected car of the future ready to roll? A presentation of the strategic choices in the automotive sector to make electric vehicles less expensive.

Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) focus, the challenges of inclusion in mass produced vehicles
The advent of the software defined vehicle, proclaimed as unavoidable, raises many questions. Manufacturers are facing major challenges to their industrial sovereignty. Some are joining forces with the GAFAMs, while others are spurning them: the strategies can be divisive. An affordable technology, at the expense of loss of sovereignty?

Is the aftermarket straying from its mission of affordable maintenance?

Background: Owing to the technological development of cars, and under the combined effects of expensive components and inflation, vehicle collision repair costs are rising, while the price of used vehicles have also increased sharply. There is a risk of a fracture between these markets and motorists’ purchasing power. Leading players from the aftermarket compare their views.

Collision repair markets under pressure: analysis and consequences
Repair costs are skyrocketing; electric vehicles are being closely watched. Insurers offer their views.
- Repair costs: what are the explanations for spiralling costs (+26.2% between 2019 and 2023)?
- Electric vehicles: questions on the minds of insurers
- FOCUS: results of the September 2024 SRA Observatoire des Sinistres (damage claim observatory).

Higher mechanical maintenance costs: is the aftermarket straying from its mission of cost-effective servicing?
- The on-the-road fleet is expanding and getting older all over Europe. The aftermarket is now worth more than the new vehicle market. But the costs of parts and labour are rising quickly, making repairs ever more costly. What should we make of these developments?
- FOCUS: Tyre innovation and its consequences on the aftermarket.

Used vehicle focus: increasing prices, energy transition: what impacts on the used vehicle profession?
Used vehicles have seen their prices rise by more than 30% in three years. The bubble is now deflating, but transactions are also tailing off. Is it all downhill from here?
Two specialists, leboncoin and L’argus, discuss the process that makes used vehicles expensive, and show the avenues that can help to stop the rot.
